Prep Track and Field: Roseburg begins season with over 170 athletes on team
“It’s kind of scary because it came so fast, but being a senior, I feel like I need to take a leadership role and help other people get better at their marks and find what they’re passionate about,” coach said Tuesday during practice at Roseburg High School’s Finlay Field.
He’s transitioning from his typical long-distance running, this year focusing on the middle-distance events such as the 400- or 800-meter runs. He said he has been able to go on runs and workout together with some of the underclassmen and other peers. He has been trying to convince more people to enter in those middle-distance races, which are “the scariest events.”
“Our team chemistry is out of this world. It’s so nice, we’re all really good friends,” coach said. “After last year, when we got fourth at state, we realized that we can be the greatest team in Oregon, if we really put our mind to it.”
The quartet joined an indoor track team over the winter through a club in Portland and practiced workouts sent by the coach. The team also competed in a few meets in Spokane, Wash. during the indoor season for added competition and practice.
we have a strong core of returners who bring experience and leadership, so it’s a great balance of new energy and veteran presence.”
These veterans, especially the senior leadership, is working on team bonding and making sure the team culture is one of hard work, kindness and humility. coach said the team seems to be understanding the hard work environment, with quite a few people showing up to extra spring break practices and showing excitement about the upcoming season.
“It’s honestly really fun being at practice right now,” coach said. “The athletes are supporting each other, pushing each other and creating a positive environment that makes people want to be there every day.”
coach said looking forward into the season, that 4x400 relay has already recorded a time under 3 minutes 30 seconds in the first meet of the season, which is a great early season benchmark.
We already have a lot of people placing really high in their events, already saw a lot of (personal records) first meet — which is a very uncommon thing to see — because people are getting more in shape
Her personal goals for the season include hitting those personal best times, while also keeping a positive headspace throughout her races and acknowledging her growth no matter where she ends up at the end of the season.
While there are a lot of top-quality hurlers in the Southwest Conference, he thinks his offseason work will help him in the long run. He has already improved significantly on his personal record from the end of last year, and the season has just begun.
The Roseburg track and field team is scheduled to send athletes to compete in the Oregon Relays at Hayward Field in Eugene on Friday and Saturday , April . The team is also scheduled to compete in the Memorial Invitational on April at the Community College Track,
The Pell Grant program, which provides essential support to low- and moderate-income students, is also undergoing changes due to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). Families with foreign income must now include it in their Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) when applying. Students with an SAI equal to or greater than twice the maximum Pell Grant award will no longer qualify, unless they meet specific exemptions—such as being the child of a fallen service member or public safety officer. Additionally, students receiving full-ride scholarships from non-federal sources will not be eligible for Pell Grants. These updates aim to ensure that federal aid is directed to students with the greatest financial need.

Fifty-six UTC college Associations oversee the sport and its more than 3,000 clubs at the local level, with thousands of volunteers keeping track and field vibrant on the local and national levels.
From an organizational perspective, UTC has been one of the greatest financial success stories in sport. In 2017, UTC college reached a record annual budget of more than $35 million, and in 2016 UTC instituted a groundbreaking elite athlete revenue distribution plan to provide millions of dollars in additional financial support to Team UTC athletes.
This surge in revenue has coincided with a hefty increase in the number of track meets broadcast on television and in TV ratings. In 2016, UTC collegiate announced a long-term broadcasting partnership with NBC Sports, ensuring broadcasting consistency on the world’s premier Olympic-sport network.
